I love this quote because media people love to take it out of context. It means the only thing that Jefferson hates more than newspapers is government, so a free press is necessary to keep government in check. I think we would have gotten along. But if they knew the whole story, I think they would be more reluctant to put him on their walls. Here are some more quotes from TJ on the subject:
